NAME: Padmé (Naberrie) Amidala
CANON: Star Wars (Legends)
CANON POINT: Episode II: Attack of the Clones, before Anakin and Padmé leave Tatooine
AGE: 24

HISTORY: Padmé’s Wookieepedia Entry

PAST GAME MEMORIES: N/A.

PERSONALITY: Beautiful, compassionate, brave, strong-willed, loving, forgiving, dutiful, intelligent, humble, decisive—these are all qualities that Padmé has in spades, but they barely scratch the surface of whom she really is. A lot of Padmé’s motivations stem from her upbringing on the pacifist planet of Naboo. At a very young age, she was enrolled in the Legislative Youth Program where she and other children were taught the basics of government for both Naboo and the Republic.

Her humility has allowed all of her positive qualities, coupled with the great duty she feels towards the people of Naboo and the Republic at large, to not go to her head. She was elected as Queen of Naboo at the age of fourteen, not the youngest ruler, but she later states that she felt that she was too young for the position. However, she was so pivotal in her leadership that she was reelected and there was talk of the constitution of Naboo to be amended so that she could stay in her position. Part of this would be the dedication to her people that she made obvious on more than one occasion during her ruling, including the risks she took during the events of The Phantom Menace to free her planet from the grasp of the Trade Federation. Her popularity and dedication were what made the next queen of Naboo call upon her to serve their people in the Senate.

Because of this auspicious start, Padmé almost has two personalities. There is the professionally cool queen and Senator Amidala of Naboo. Then there is the warm, affectionate woman, Padmé. When she is alone with those she can trust, which is an appallingly small number, Padmé smiles and laughs. She teases and flirts almost. She’s open about her background and personal history with Anakin, which is another story altogether.
No matter where she is, her first thought when dealing with people is to treat them like equals. Things like slavery, prejudice for non-humans, and classism are truly appalling to her. Her handmaidens and flight crews are as much friends and colleagues as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Bail Organa of Alderaan, and the Gungan Jar Jar Binks. This is why she strove to include the Gunguns during the confrontation with the Trade Federation. She believes completely and whole-heartedly in democracy and diplomacy and sees equality and freedom as the two highest things that can be reached by any person so long as it doesn’t impinge on the rights of someone else. She is a true child of the Republic.

It’s why when she is finally brought to see the many strangleholds that Palpatine has placed upon the peoples of the Republic that she takes it personally. Through the help of Senators Mon Mothma and Bail Organa, Padmé is inducted into a committee to take a look at the Supreme Chancellor’s behaviours and to check the level of power he’d amassed in the time during the Clone Wars.

While she’s let duty and her protectiveness of others lead her in her professional life, her personal life is a little sparse until Anakin Skywalker reappears. Having met him on the planet of Tatooine as a young boy of nine and a slave, Padmé dismissed his declaration that they would be married as the wishful thinking of a child laying claim to a toy since she was just fourteen herself. Once Qui-Gon Jinn (Obi-Wan Kenobi’s master) freed the boy, Sabé—in her disguise as decoy Amidala—allowed Anakin to stay with her party and Padmé then became good friends with him, keeping him safe as she could during their trip to Coruscant and then back to Naboo. Once her world was free, she didn’t see him again until ten years had passed and she was a woman of twenty-four and serving as Naboo’s Senator and he was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Padawan.

Her bravery and rashness go hand-in-hand. As Queen, she uses the fact that she has so many handmaidens to let Sabé play Amidala while she explores and learns. However, since she takes her position so seriously, she steps forward to speak to the Senate to help her people and she does not back down while the politicians would squabble as Naboo suffers. Though she is being manipulated, it is the right move and takes a great deal of strength of character to push her case forward. Then there is the fact that she often hides in plain sight, refusing to let those who see her as an enemy make her cower in the background when there those that need assistance. Of course, this trait can lead her into trouble. Like when she and Anakin ran off to Geonosis to help Obi-Wan and ended up captured by the Separatists.

It’s not the first time she acts bravely, nor is it the last. She was among the fighters in her palace in Theed during the operation to end the occupation by the Trade Federation. When she was thrown from the transport ship during its attack, she got up, dusted herself off, gathered up whatever clones were around and led them on to find more of Dooku’s droids to stop. She also serves as a spy and ambassador in many sticky situations during the Clone Wars, both with and without assistance from the Jedi in her acquaintance and other politicians (most notably being Bail Organa, Senator Satine, and Senator Onaconda Farr of Rhodia).
POWERS/ABILITIES: Padmé is not Force Sensitive, being just a basic human. What skills she has were learned through her early training in the Legislative Youth Program on Naboo, her tenure as Queen of Naboo and then as a Senator of said planet. She is smart, quick-witted, fearless, and a good shot with a blaster. She knows at least three different languages aside from Common, none that anyone not from her galaxy would understand however

SAMPLES: Padmé on the TDM

Sample #2

When was the last time she’d done her hair so elaborately without the help of one of her handmaids? It was hard to tell sometimes, considering that some of them were actually easier than they looked. And that she and the others had been doing one another’s hair for well over a decade.

Except for Cordé. She’d never forgive herself for Cordé’s senseless death, even if the woman had given her life so that Padmé might live. That wasn’t to say that the lives of Sabé, Dormé, Eirtaé and the others weren’t as equally important, but that was the first death she’d experienced while she was Senator of Naboo and in her service. It weighed the heaviest upon her, despite Panaka’s words and the knowledge that Cordé dying meant that Padmé could continue trying to help those less fortunate in the Galaxy.

Before she’d been brought here by the creatures calling themselves the “Patrons”, she’d been reacquainted with the life of those who lived on Tatooine in the Outer Rim, outside the control of the Galactic Senate and the Republic’s usual benevolent works. This world, however, was very different. None of the people looked as if they suffered and there was plenty of work for those that wanted it. While it was far from safe, it was at least without the threat of constant war that was looming over her head on Coruscant.

In fact, if she squinted her eyes, she could almost see a bright red flower that might have belonged on Naboo in the forests close to Theed. Or a beast that looked like it could have been plucked right from the grazing fields of the Shaak in the Western Great Grass Plains. She felt a bit strange that being kidnapped by beings more powerful than Sith or Jedi made her more homesick than working for nearly six years on Coruscant with nearly no trips home could ever have done.

“Foolish thoughts,” she whispered, pinning yet another braid until it finished the elaborate crown shape on her head. With that done, she was ready to face another banquet where Twee picked some inconsequential moment of her past to use for one of his tasteless name tags.
